The VQA seal, found on our British Columbia wines reflects the dedication of our winemakers to creating world class products. Each wine bearing the seal has been carefully selected, tasted and approved by the British Columbia Wine Institute (made up of a delegation of both grape growers and wine industry personnel) in collaboration with the newly formed (as of April 2006) British Columbia Wine Authority. The British Columbia Wine Institute originally developed and enforced regulatory controls and guidelines of application and wine-making standards. With the creation of the new BC Wine Authority, responsibility for enforcing VQA standards will be assumed by the Authority.

Any label bearing Product of British Columbia must be made from 100% British Columbia grown grapes and must enforce optimum growing standards. Wines with the name of the viticultural area must use a minimum of 95% grapes grown in the area, and wines bearing the name of a variety must have a varietal content of 85% as a minimum.

The vintage date on the label must correspond to a minimum of 95% of wines obtained from the year of harvest. Wines labelled as estate bottled must be made from grapes of vineyards owned by the winery. All steps of production must be performed at the bottling winery. As a final check, the quality of the wine is tested for faults and varietal characteristics by a panel of six wine-tasting experts before being approved. Superior wines are then awarded the VQA seal of approval.

The next time you are buying wine, be assured that any wine bearing the VQA seal will be the best British Columbia has to offer.
